Dashain

During Dashain, people take time out of their work and spend time with their family and loved ones.

Dashain is the most important festival celebrated across Nepal, including Dharan. This festival is a time of joy, unity, and togetherness, where people from all walks of life come together to celebrate the victory of good over evil. It lasts for 15 days, and the final day is called Vijaya Dashami, a time primarily dedicated to worshiping Goddess Durga and receiving blessings.

During Dashain, religious sites in Dharan see large crowds of devotees. Notably, temples like Budha Subba Temple and Pindeshwor in Vijaypur, as well as the Dantakali Shakti Peeth, become major centers of worship. Throughout the festival, special rituals are performed every day in honor of the nine forms of Goddess Durga. The first day of Navaratri begins with the worship of Shailaputri Devi. Nepal is home to three major Shakti Peeths: Guhyeshwari in Kathmandu, Siddhakali in Sankhuwasabha, and Dantakali in Dharan. According to ancient texts, Dantakali Shakti Peeth is believed to be the site where Sati Devi’s tooth (danta) fell, making it a place of great religious and cultural significance.

This festival symbolizes religious faith and cultural heritage, bringing the entire community together.
